"Just a mom with a camera"

A wonderful photographer named Jamie Swanson recently posted in her blog under the title: "Confessions of a photographer". I don't think I could have described myself any better than she did. Here's an except from that blog, it gave me some excellent insight into myself and my business. Interesting, coming from someone who's never met me....

"...Let’s get real for a moment.
Running a business is stinking hard....I’m just a normal person.
I’m just a “Mom with a camera” who struggles with balance
and time management and with worries and everything just like you do.
Yes, I know business. I have a lot of tools at my disposal,
but that doesn't make me immune to the struggle.
I burned out working a full time job as well as doing photography in the evenings and weekends.
I worry about booking enough clients.
I worry about cash flow and savings.
I work far too many hours into the day and night, and struggle with finding balance...
I work in my pajamas most days, and my house is a mess.
In fact, I’m in need of a shower right now too.
But you know what?
It’s worth it."

I love what I do. I love each and every one of you for being a part of what I do. Thanks for all of your support.

Smash!

Just finished developing from a fun one-year shoot - this little prince was so sweet! We had to take lots of breaks for kisses, but of course I didn't mind! I can't wait to photograph his little brother when he comes along in June! See my "kids" portfolio for some of my favorite shots from this session. Happy Birthday, big guy!

Yes.

A little over a year ago one of my very best friends introduced me to his girlfriend. In doing so, he also introduced me to a new friend of my own. I have since become very close with this lovely person and have often wondered where she'd been all my... I mean his... life! At my wedding in November, he told me that he wanted to ask her to be his wife. Several months of ring shopping later, he was finally ready to pop the question and wanted me to be there to get it on film. I got to the restaurant early, found a good hiding spot (while apologizing to several curious people just trying to enjoy their dinner), and she was completely shocked. It was such a wonderful experience to be a part of! Oh, and she said YES! Congratulations!

Easter.

Easter is a big deal in our family. A day celebrating the single event that solidified all that we believe in gets taken pretty seriously around here. I made time, however, to get my lens on a beautiful little bunny to commemorate her first Easter. Some samples can be found in my "Kids" portfolio.

God bless you and yours this spring - may the spirit of redemption wash over you and inspire you to do something great.

One.

A good friend got in touch with me to shoot her daughter's one year photos. What a treat! The little princess was so sweet and funny and the whole session was a wonderful experience! The only thing better than happy clients is happy friends. Samples can be found in my "kids" portfolio. Happy Birthday, little cutie!
