Princess.

It's so funny to me, how different little boys and little girls are. Birthday sessions with little boys are always a try-to-keep-up kind of event, while little girls' sessions have more of a wait-and-see kind of mood. This little princess was a little bit of both. She was so very energetic and funny but still sweet and feminine at the same time. I had a wonderful time at this session!

Whimsy.

I love engagement sessions - I have so many couples unsure if they should "bother" with them, but I always tell people that engagement sessions are a nice contrast to the dress-and-tuxedo photos they'll take at their wedding, and are intended to be a natural reflection of who they really are as a couple. I think I really achieved that with this couple. We spent the afternoon in Old Town Temecula, being silly, antiquing, and just enjoying the historic and cultural landscape which, as it turns out, is what they do on any given weekend together. I can't wait for their 2013 wedding!

Home.

A couple months ago I did newborn photos for a sweet baby who's daddy is a United States Marine and was overseas at the time of her birth. I causally chatted with Mom while I was over there about possibly going with her to capture the moment when he did finally come home. She wasn't sure exactly when that would be so I was surprised when I got the call from her (on September 11th, of all days) that he'd be home that week. She was concerned that I wasn't available on such short notice but I had nothing going on that day - it's funny how God works, huh?

My husband and I went together, and I put a camera in his hand, too. Turns out he's a decent photographer! The whole event was so emotional but I held it together pretty well, I think.

I know that every client and every job is a blessing but this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I absolutely love this family and am so glad they are finally all together.

Dy-no-mite!

Couples with matching initials make me giggle. It's like God, when deciding that these two people would be together forever, said, "and to top it off, I'm going to alliterate your names so you can make really pretty monograms and your wedding photographer can make stupid jokes about it". I'm sure that's not at all how it happens but it's still cool!

This couple is literally TNT. They are so very adorable and in love and I had an amazing time with them shooting their engagement session. I can't wait for their wedding next month!

Bump.

It's a fine line that I, as a photographer walk, between being voyeuristic, and having a vision. I never in my life thought I would find myself in so many positions asking people to kiss, touch each other, or take off their clothes. Sometimes, however, it has to be done. Not the case with this beautiful mom-to-be. She asked, when she originally reached out to me, if a studio session was an option. I didn't realize, at the time, that this was due to her desire to show off her gorgeous maternal figure. I was so impressed with this mom's candor and how comfortable she is in her own skin. Every mother is beautiful, but so few FEEL beautiful in the last weeks of their pregnancy. I was so pleased with the outcome of this session.

Hot.

I love the end of summer. I'm one of those sickos who genuinely enjoys the sensation of warmth. For 16 hours a day. Pair that with the few extra hours of sunlight we've taken for granted since spring, the kids back in school (so that my morning Target trips can be enjoyable again), and REALLY good fruit and veggies and this is my favorite time of the year. When one of my brides wanted to do her engagement session over Labor day weekend, I was initially hesitant, assuming all of my good locations would be overrun with vacationers, but I dug deep and remembered a great little spot where we did some personal photos awhile back. I suggested we start early, because not everyone is as sick as I am with enjoyment of this heat.

It was still 90 something degrees at 8:30 in the morning. Seriously?! Egg. On. My. Face.

They were absolute champs, and fantastic in front of the camera. This couple shares a wonderful chemistry that she mentioned wanting to capture when we first met and started talking about her wedding. She mentioned they have a young child together, but she didn't think that meant they shouldn't have some sexy mommy-daddy photos just like anyone else. I was SO glad she felt this way... not enough couples do, in my opinion (says the girl who was 5 months pregnant in her engagement photos). I think we absolutely achieved the sexiness she was looking for... to the point that some of the photos aren't ones I can share!

I can't wait for this awesome couple's wedding!
